Examples of Fakes
Here's a super crappy "vintage cast iron handcuffs"
The seller appears to be an individual selling a wide variety of vintage items for nostalgic decorating purposes more than anything. I imagine they don't know that these are replicas, or assume they are because they are rusty.
Here is another example showing the crude, weak, poorly made hinge on the replicas. Compare this to the hinges on the Hiatt darby models on the previous post. There's no comparison between the two.
This seller has a wide range of replicas. These even have a fancy plaque that tells you they were property of Alcatraz. (Plaques like this are a sure sign they are replicas and not vintage or antique.) You can take your pick between cuffs marked for prisons in Alcatraz, Sing Sing, Colorado Territory, Folsom or Yuma. This was very seldom if ever done.
Cuffs were OFTEN marked for police departments, prisons, jails, courts, armies, etcetera but this was done with simple number and letter stamps where the die is placed on the cuff and hit with a hammer to create the text. For example, Hiatt SPF cuffs for the Singapore Police Force, or State abbreviation.
