Bean Prison or Patrolman

Here is a nice set of Bean handcuffs, either Prison or Patrolman model. These models are nearly identical, and other collectors have also indicated that weight or perhaps key size may be the only way to really differentiate between the two outside of more context.

This pair auctioned off for $173 after 15 bids. It came with two keys. The nickel plating looks pretty good other than a few normal wear spots.

Secondly, we have another set of Bean handcuffs, again, it could be Prison or Patrolman.

This set is a little rougher than the other set. There is a bit of surface rust and corrosion on both cuffs, but that does not affect their function, and they came with a key. They were listed for $100 or best offer, and an offer was accepted.

Finally, here is my own set of Bean handcuffs which were sold as Patrolman model when I bought them for $215 in 2023. The keys aren't original, but the nickel plating is in very good condition.

These are nice, solid handcuffs, if a bit small. Each cuff has its own swivelling clevis, and they are joined by a single long link. Bean handcuffs of all type (Prison, Patrolman, Cobb, Giant) do not double lock, but they have a "keep open" setting where the ratchet is held back from engaging, and the arm can freely enter and exit the lock body, for example while holstered or in a pocket. Once the arming buttons are activated, the ratchet will engage. If the shackle arm is inside the lock body at the time that the arming buttons is pressed, the cuff will immediately lock. Bean Cobb leg irons also have this feature, but Bean Prison leg irons do not. There are no Patrolman or Giant leg irons.
