Antique Shrews Fiddle?

This rather roughly made rigid restraint sold for $153.50 after 11 bids. 

My initial reaction to this would be "fake/replica" because the hinge is rough, the fit is rough, and it looks like a lot of the fake vintage items. However it came from a reputable eBay seller who has also sold a lot of quality antique items from the same collection. 

I also know next to nothing about this type of restraint; the only one I have is a modern Chinese one made of magnesium. 

It requires at least one padlock and better with two. Interesting to see that it's the "O=oo" design vs the more common "O=8".
