KUB is a modern restraint maker producing an incredible range of premium handcuffs, leg irons, collars, combination restraints, and rigid multi point body restraints. 

These modern examples of historical designs are manufactured with high tolerances, excellent machining, and quality materials. The keys are threaded perfectly. 

My first Darby restraint was the KUB model KB-927, a non adjustable Darby leg shackle based on the Hiatt Darby leg irons. I actually purchased these from Handcuff Warehouse in Virginia, USA, along with their KB-917, a beautiful interpretation of the Irish 8. 

KUB primarily sells wholesale, although it is possible to order directly from the factory. This is a somewhat expensive and complicated process depending on customs in your country, and returns are not possible at that point, according to another collector. 

Regardless, a variety of the KUB range has been available through several websites, including the aforementioned Handcuff Warehouse, as well as the fetish-oriented Cuff Store and a few resellers in the adult market.

Above and below, KUB model 919 adjustable Darby leg irons in size medium from the authors own collection. This is a heavy, beautifully crafted restraint inspired by traditional Darby designs but truly uniquely KUB as well. It was also available in large. The chain is 18" fine twist links with a stamped stainless steel swivel and two stout O rings. KUB previously used a nicer cast brass swivel along with a heavier twist link chain, but this one suffices. There are five locking positions, the smallest of which is very small. 

Below, close up detail of the heavy integral clevises and the broad curve of the shackles. The nickel plated brass has held up to some fair bit of use, showing just a fine patina of dings and surface imperfections.

The nickel plating from KUB has improved over the years. Earlier production runs are prone to flaking or wear, as seen on this pair which has been heavily used. 

Above, the nickel plating has entirely worn away on the inner circumference of the shackles and the inner surface of the lock tube. 

Below, the nickel plating has also worn off the tang style clevises, and the outer surface of the shackle adjacent to the O rings is marked with a heavy patina of dings and minor surface wear within the contact areas of the moving chain while in use. 

I often consider stripping the remaining nickel plating to make these all brass; it's actually somewhat difficult to remove nickel plating, and options include sand blasting, anode solutions, or chemical strippers, and I'm not sure what would work best.

These are solid, heavy rigid cuffs. While there were some dual sided Irish 8 solid state restraints historically, they typically had one keyway fading up and one facing down, likely so that they could be unlocked and maneuvered no matter how they were applied. Again, uniquely KUB. While the restraint position is fairly strict, these are oversized enough that there is a bit of room to shift the legs about. Naturally they can also be applied in a stacked position, as well. 

Above and below, KUB Hamburg leg shackles in stainless steel. This is a historically accurate locking mechanism, although I'm not sure I've seen leg irons in this style before. These are the smaller of the sizes. The key is a flat fluted press key and not highly secure. The chain is 18" of small flat links with a stainless steel swivel with equal sized sides and two large O rings. 

These were also available in nickel plated brass, although the design was slightly different.
