Hiatt Bean Pattern

This is a very rare example of the Hiatt made Bean Prison/Patrolman design. It sold for £504.41 or $680.70 with one key after only 3 bids.

There is also a Towers Bean Pattern, which is more rare than the Bean model but this Hiatt variant I've never seen prior to this one.

While it looks very similar to the Bean Prison model as made by Lovell and later Iver Johnson, (who also manufactured firearms, bicycles, motorcycles, children's toys, and even a cane gun), there is a distinct roundness to the outer edge of the lock cases which is not present in the more common examples.

You can see here the Hiatt manufacturing stamp. Edward Bean didn't run a factory making all his designs; rather he was an inventor and would license the designs or have manufacturing plants make his designs. In fact, he initially designed and sold police whistles and night sticks. He invented a night stick with a built in whistle. He had these items produced by John P Lovell Arms Company in Boston, the same firm which would later manufacture his handcuff designs.

Close up detail of the lock activating buttons. They are a bit different than the typical Bean Prison/Patrolman cuffs.

Here is a super rusty pair of Bean Prison/Patrolman handcuffs, the primary example of this design. These sold for $32.95 with no key.

Above, detail of the keyhole and lock activating button. These are pretty much relic condition.
