Rankin Handcuffs

A very rare set of Rankin handcuffs with one key. The starting bid was $9.99 with no reserve.
UPDATE: SOLD for $591 with 21 bids.
They have a nice heavy swivel between the clevises.

These are a rare and unique design by Andrew Rankin, based on his 1866 patent #52,745. These are heavy and secure but the lock mechanism is very complicated. The sequence involves turning the key, pushing or pulling it depending on if you are locking or unlocking it, and then forcefully slamming it shut or yanking it open. Hence the loop on the flat part to insert a finger and yank it open.
