Replica vs Legitimate, leg irons edition
As an addition to the last post, here are a few examples of the modern low quality replica leg irons, which are almost as common as the matching handcuffs.
Above, (replica) a set of crude handcuffs and shackles. Note the very rough, very long flat link chain, the and the giveaway is the keys.
Below, (legitimate) a beautiful pair of Hiatt Darby leg irons. These were listed for £275 or $368.86 or best offer and an offer was accepted. Note the thick and well made cuffs and the two HEAVY swivels.
Above, (replica) another pair with a bit nicer chain but you can see the low quality in the lack of swivel and the poorly made hinges. These appear to be properly sized, but the other pairs tend to be almost comically oversized.
Below, (legitimate) Providence Tool Company Darby Shackles from my own collection. These have a very long chain but note that it is a heavy but relatively fine twist link chain, and has two swivels.

I appreciate the time you’re taking for this blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anonymous, it is somewhat time intensive, but at least it's cheaper than if I were to go BUYING all these cool restraints. I do this partly because of my love for collecting these things is larger than my (admittedly overly generous) collecting budget.
