Late model Hiatt Irish 8 handcuffs

This is a nice example of the Hiatt Irish 8 handcuffs.

Below, close up detail of the hinge and keyway. Note the flat half circle enscribed on the side of the keyway. This is the surface upon which the shoulder of the key bears in order to retract the locking bolt against the spring.  This hinge isn't as tight as some other examples but it's still miles ahead of modern India made fakes. 

Above, this key is almost certainly a replacement but the threads look great. It's also possible it is an original key with a replacement head. Even the least ornate Hiatt keys had more than a flat coin looking circle for the key head. 

UPDATE: I missed the Hiatt makers mark stamp on the other side of the key visible in the first picture. I wonder if Hiatt ran out of key head blanks at that time? Or if the key head broke and the owner brazed in a flat circle and stamped it Hiatt? 

 Above, note the distinctly squared off edges. Earlier production runs were much more rounded.
