"oval" Bean Cobb leg irons


This otherwise unremarkable example of Bean Cobb leg irons shows the results of an escape technique known as "ovalling" the shackle, or deforming it into an oblong shape that may allow the wearer to slip it off. 

Note the distinct teardrop shape that this lends to the Bean Cobb. It's still the same circumference, just a different shape. I don't think this would be enough to allow most people to escape from these. 
These cuffs appear functional still. Interesting example.
