KUB 5 point transport restraint, adjustable

Here is a vintage transport restraint in historical adjustable Darby design by modern restraint maker KUB in Pakistan.

This combination restraint sold for $255 after 20 bids with three original keys. This is an amazingly restrictive restraint, particularly so if worn behind the back.

This combination restraint, as well as several others, were available from Handcuff Warehouse as recently as a few years ago; at this point, only one variant remains listed, and it's out of stock.

KUB, based in Silkot, Pakistan, was established in 1999 and offers a nearly unfathomable variety of restraints in a myriad of designs and sizes. Although the KUB collection includes many historically based designs (Irish 8, Darby adjustable and non adjustable handcuffs and shackles, Bavarian Justice shackles, and more) they also offer a wide range of "fantasy" restraints, including spreader bar cuffs, rigid multi point body restraints, solid state ankle cuffs, steel mitts, many, MANY collars, and so on.

Their website states that they are "Reviving the Art of Darbies. KUB is proud to be the first company to breathe new life into traditional Darby designs. At a time when this unique art was nearly forgotten, with no further manufacturing or development in the field, we took the initiative to restore, refine, and reintroduce these classic creations to the market. Through innovation, craftsmanship, and dedication, KUB has played a vital role in preserving and promoting the art of Darbies, ensuring its legacy continues for future generations."

Below, close up detail of the finely crafted hinges, lock tubes, and solidly made keys. These are are very high quality designs in nickel plated brass made with modern manufacturing standards and equipment. This set could use a good polishing. I'll also point out that the older production run of both adjustable and non adjustable Darby leg irons used a heavier gauge chain which had five links on each side of the heavy  swivel whereas newer production has a finer chain with a steel swivel and with ten smaller links on each side of the central swivel. My non adjustable Darby KUB shackles have the heavier chain and swivel but the swivel is at one side.

KUB restraints are some of my favorite parts of my collection, and were also some of the first restraints I sought out when I first started collecting. I have detailed the KUB Darby cuffs as compared to Hiatt and historical makers on the handcuffs forum. I will work to bring that here.

Also, as we reach 1,000 views, I thank all of you for visiting and reading this blog. This is rewarding when others appreciate it. I will be working on the "pages" section again soon, as well as potentially selling two or three of my own items to keep my collection fresh. Only then will I be able to buy more pieces.
